EL Teacher (Bilingual Preferred) - Jr. High

Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guides the learning process toward achievement of district approved curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; to communicate these objectives for ELL students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the English Language Learners.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Assesses the learning of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

Qualifications

  • ISBE PEL with English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement, required
  • ISBE PEL with a bilingual endorsement, preferred.
  • ISBE PEL additional endorsements, preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in organization, flexibility, and cooperativeness.

Salary/Benefits

Supervisor:   Principal / Assistant Principal
Salary:   Per Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement, Contract Extension and Benefits
Work Schedule: School Year 2026-27

Additional Notes

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the ELL teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and differentiated instruction in the target language that is aligned to the curriculum and learning standards.  The teacher establishes a culture for learning within the classroom, ensuring that students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The teacher maintains regular communication with parents(s)/guardians(s) with regard to their instructional program and student progress.
