Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to the responsibilities and duties of the classroom teacher, a special education teacher is responsible for the following:
- Develop an Individual Education Plan for each student to which they are assigned.
- Develop daily lesson plans which work toward achievement of the goals and objectives defined
for each child.
- Maintain accurate records as required by the building principal
- Consult with regular division teacher on transition services and programming for students being
mainstreamed/included.
- Coordinate the related services for each student in the classroom through the use of
transdisciplinary model.
- Regularly evaluate each child’s progress and make recommendations at the annual review for
any changes in the child’s program.
- Refer students for re-evaluation every 3 years, or more often if necessary.
- Develop plans for the teacher’s aide (if assigned) and supervise their performance on a daily
basis.
- Attend inservice training as planned by the building/district administrator.
- Review, requisition, and develop materials to implement the instructional program, and to meet
the unique needs of the individual children enrolled.
- Develop, revise, expand and review curriculum for the program.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation of classroom program effectiveness.
- Involve parents in each student’s school program and document family contact.
- Oversees the safety and security conditions of the facility or area in which assigned activity
Is conducted at all times that students are present.
- All other reasonable duties as assigned by the Board of Education, Superintendent, or Building
Principal (s).
Qualifications
Valid Illinois Professional Educators License appropriate to the position
Such additional qualifications as the governing authorities may find
appropriate and acceptable.
Salary/Benefits
SALARY: Per the salary schedule outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CUSD#1 Board of Education and the South Scott Federation of Teachers, available at winchesterschools.net>district>contracts>teacher contract
