• Student Transportation: Drive assigned morning and afternoon routes on a strict timetable, as well as extracurricular trips like athletic events or field trips. 

• Safety & Supervision: Ensure the health, safety, and orderly conduct of all passengers; enforce safety restraints; and report discipline issues to school authorities. 

• Vehicle Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety and mechanical inspections (including checks for sleeping children) and verify adequate fuel and fluid levels. 

• Maintenance & Cleaning: Perform light cleaning duties—such as daily floor sweeping, trash removal, and window wiping—and report mechanical repair needs to the transportation supervisor. 

• Administrative Duties: Complete maintenance logs, attendance records, and uniform school bus accident reports when required. 

• Age: Must be at least 21 years old

• License & Permit: Valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger ("P") and school bus ("S") endorsements, plus a valid Illinois School Bus Driver’s Permit. 

• Training: Completion of state-approved initial school bus driver training (classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction) and an annual two-hour refresher course.

• Medical & Screening: Annual Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination, mandatory drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment and random), and a criminal background check.
