Duties
Performance Responsibilities:
- Administer the school and its instructional program in all its facets
- Exert leadership in the adaptation of the general program of education approved for the schools to meet the differentiated needs of the community served
- Direct the activities of certified school professionals and nonprofessional non-certified staff members in the performance of their duties; responsible for the supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff in respective building
- Supervise the instructional staff in the development and implementation of curriculum and student activities
- Report to appropriate central office administrative personnel regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum
- Maintain building budget, approving all building purchases, ensuring all purchases are reasonable and necessary
- Coordinate the full range of extra-curricular activities, including the supervision of these activities
- Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students
- Responsible for fire drills/tornado drills/school safety drills
- Implement Board policies and administrative rules and regulations relating to the school
- Serve on the Administrative Council of the School District, as well as various Board Committees and related District special initiative teams
- Prepare such reports as may be required
- Work with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems such as transportation, special services, etc.
- Conduct staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and the like
- Keep the Superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems
- Notify the Office of the Superintendent when absence from the building is necessary
- The Principal will utilize the law enforcement resources when the safety and/or welfare of the students and/or teachers are threatened by illegal use of drugs and alcohol
- Construct course schedules, master schedules, and schedules of students
- The Principal will exercise fiduciary responsibilities for the building accounts and activity accounts in his/her jurisdiction
- Subscribes to a code of ethics worth emulating and treats all people within the educational community fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect
- Performs other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent
Salary/Benefits
Salary Range: $100,000 to $125,000+, depending upon experience
Benefits:
Additional or alternative fringe benefits beyond the items noted below are contingent upon contractual agreements and obligations between the Administrator and the Board of Education, as noted in the Administrator's contract. The Benefits below are based on an 11-month Principal. Benefits may vary slightly for a 12-month Principal.
In addition to the annual salary provided, the Board shall make full payment of member's contribution, on behalf of the Administrator, to the Illinois Teachers' Retirement System (TRS).
Sick Leave Days per school year: 16
Accumulation of Sick Leave Days: Unlimited
Vacation Leave Days per school year: Implemented in 12-month contracts only.
Personal Business Leave Days per school year: 3
NOTE: Unused Personal Business Leave Days will be added to accumulated Sick Leave Days.
Paid Holidays:
Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, day following Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Lincoln's Birthday or Presidents Day, Casimir Pulaski Day, Memorial Day.
NOTE: Veterans Day, Lincoln's Birthday, and President's Day will be observed as a paid holiday in those years that it is a Board-approved Legal School Holiday. If an employee is required to work on a designated holiday, the employee will receive a floating holiday to be used prior to June 30 of that year.
Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Coverage:
The Board will pay the full premium cost of single or family coverage for those administrators electing to participate in any health, dental, or vision insurance plan offered and approved by the District.
Employees who elect not to participate in the health insurance plan extended by the Board of Education will receive up to $1,300.00 per year.
Life Insurance:
For full-time employees, the Board will provide a $50,000 term life insurance policy, pursuant to the District life insurance program.
Paid Professional Membership Dues:
The district will reimburse the administrator for dues paid to professional associations of choice, not to exceed $1,000.00 annually.
Reimbursement of Accumulated Sick Leave upon Retirement/Death:
See Section 12.7.2 of the FREA agreement at www.d142.org.
Tuition Reimbursement:
The Board of Education will provide an eligible employee reimbursement for tuition following the same protocol as listed in Section 12.1 Tuition Reimbursement of the FREA agreement, with the exception of the reimbursement amount listed in Section 6 will be increased by $100 per semester hour.
