Qualifications
Position Summary:
The Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher plans and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction that helps middle school students apply practical skills and make informed choices in everyday life. Through discussion, projects, and supervised hands-on learning, the teacher builds students' understanding of nutrition and food preparation, consumer and financial decisions, and other topics in the district's FACS curriculum.
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications, required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Family and Consumer Sciences endorsement valid for the assigned grade levels, or other licensure that the district verifies as appropriate for the specific assignment.
- Additional core subject endorsements, preferred
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Successful teaching experience with middle school students preferred.
- Strong knowledge of FACS content and the ability to design age-appropriate, hands-on learning experiences.
- Ability to plan and deliver high-quality instruction aligned with district curriculum and applicable learning standards, using assessment evidence to adjust instruction.
- Ability to differentiate instruction, provide appropriate supports, and create a welcoming classroom for students with varied strengths, needs, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, communicate with families, and collaborate with colleagues and support staff.
- Strong organization, classroom management, communication, and professional judgment, including attention to student privacy and safety.
- Ability to use instructional technology purposefully to support student learning.
