Special Education Teacher (4th & 5th Grade ELA)

Job description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the mission and vision of the school are demonstrated in all actions.
  • Ensure the highest quality educational experience for all students.
  • Provide a safe learning environment.
  • Ensure and foster the educational, social, and emotional development of all students.
  • Enforce all behavior management and reward system policies, coordinate with Student Support Manager where required.
  • Comply with all school policy and procedure.
  • Coordinate with Special Education Case Manager and/or instructional team members to ensure specialized curriculum is being provided to students in conjunction with state and school learning standards and best practice.
  • Develop lesson plans that ensure the attainment of IEP goals, objectives, and state and school learning standards.
  • Provide direct instruction in compliance with students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and provide special education students with services, modifications, accommodations, and supplementary aids in compliance with IEPs and best practice.
  • Prepare students, and address all student needs, for all required assessments, including state, district, and/or progress monitoring assessments.
  • Evaluate students’ progress and consistently report on progress throughout the school year as mandated by federal law.
  • Prepare and complete all student reports (IEP reports, progress reports, grade reports, etc.) as required.
  • Provide an inviting, exciting, and innovative learning environment.
  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management with consideration given to student disabilities and applicable behavioral intervention plans.
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from leadership and/or instructional coaches.
  • Ensure student caseload and workload are frequently updated to reflect current services; ensure that all services—including related services—are provided to special education students in compliance with student IEPs.
  • Collaborate with other educators, faculty, and staff to ensure that students with special needs are provided with appropriate services, modifications, accommodations, and supplementary aids.
  • Stay up to date on current research and legislation within the field of special education.
  • Attend all required professional development.
  • Assist with student and parent events as well as extra curricular activity.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Special Education Certification (LBS-I) for assigned grade level.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience; working with students as a general education or special education instructor.
  • Positive, solution-focused individual with a growth mindset.
  • Personal initiative and desire for responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage the interest of school-age children.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with diverse children with a variety of special needs, including, but not limited to, learning- and emotionally-based disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers/staff.
  • Demonstrated success in encouraging parental involvement.

Salary/Benefits

Salary:

$48,000 - $60,000
