Director of Buildings and Grounds

Duties

Specific Duties

  • Lead member, with the principal and maintenance foreman, of the Operation and Maintenance team that supervises and evaluates district maintenance /custodial employees/contractors.
  • Develops and coordinates services and programs for the operation, maintenance, improvement, safety, and security of buildings, grounds and related
  • Works with the Director of Fiscal Services on the procurement of utilities for all campuses.
  • Develops, coordinates, and monitors with the Director of Finance, a 20-year facility plan for the repair, replacement, retrofit, and/or remodeling of all systems, associated components, and capital equipment through the maintenance of a comprehensive database, preventative maintenance logs, and associated record keeping.

  • Develops and coordinates in-service training programs for custodial and maintenance personnel and their
  • In coordination with designated district staff, reviews work order requests and assists in development of and remodeling projects in all
  • Develops and maintains a district-wide PM program.
  • Manages the Life Safety and AHERA asbestos
  • Coordinates compliance efforts relative to state and federal environmental and safety
  • Aides in preparation and administration of the maintenance, operation of plant, life safety, and school construction other program budgets as assigned by the Supervisor of Fiscal
  • Directs, inventories and orders materials as needed, develops specifications and recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase in accordance with board
  • Attends and gives reports at the Board of Education meetings, Buildings and Grounds committee meetings and other meetings as assigned by the Director of Fiscal
  • Create and develop an annually revised, but continuing, five and twenty-year plan for projected repair, replacement, retrofit, remodeling and renovation of building and selective replacement of
  • Report regularly to the Director of Fiscal Services the general condition of all school property; recommend changes or improvements, which should be made in five-year planning process or the current year, facilitate updates to short- and long-range
  • Develop and maintain emergency schedules and temporary personnel replacement.
  • Prepares all in-house specifications for repairs, remodeling, and repair that are to be awarded to an outside contractor and/or recommends the engagement of the District’s
  • Participates in new construction planning when assigned; Represents the District as its project manager on all construction
  • Oversees all contractor construction and repair work to assure completion of construction in accordance with bid specification and
  • Recruit, screen, and recommend replacement custodial/maintenance personnel and/or contractors in collaboration with
  • Administer and comply with all management responsibilities under the existing
  • Rigidly comply with all school board
  • Maintains schedules of work for each individual building, and insures that proper supplies are on hand in that
  • Evaluates the performance of the foreman on a regular basis and performs same evaluation on an annual basis in collaboration with principals.

  • Inspects and maintains all building systems (HVAC, roofing, communication, security, access control, CCTV, fire, etc.) on a regularly scheduled
  • Prepares for annual inspection of each school building by local fire departments and by the Regional Office of Education (ROE) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred, and experience in working with mechanical systems, large commercial or school buildings, and related outside facilities or 5 years related experience in K12 School Facility Management.

 OBJECTIVE:  To efficiently and effectively maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
