Principal

Duties

  • Foster and sustain a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic achievement and student well-being.
  • Provide leadership in the planning, coordination, and implementation of all school programs, activities, and operations.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Superintendent regarding school programs, initiatives, operations, concerns, and accomplishments.
  • Lead and supervise instructional programs through regular classroom observations, lesson plan reviews, and instructional feedback to support high-quality teaching practices aligned with current educational research and student development.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of all reports, records, documentation, and administrative requirements necessary for effective school operations.
  • Monitor employee professionalism, attendance and effective use of instructional and work time.
  • Collaborate with district administration regarding operational matters such as transportation, student services, safety, and other district initiatives.
  • Ensure the consistent implementation of all Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, and school regulations by staff and students.
  • Build and maintain positive, productive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Develop, communicate, and practice emergency response procedures and safety drills to ensure school preparedness.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, healthy, and welcoming school facility that supports effective teaching and learning.
  • Establish and oversee inventory management systems for school equipment, instructional materials, and supplies.
  • Promote high expectations for student behavior and implement effective student discipline procedures that support a positive school climate.
  • Participate in required meetings, school events, extracurricular activities, athletic events, and community functions.
  • Provide regular updates to the Superintendent and Board of Education regarding school needs, operations, achievements, and progress toward goals.
  • Ensure the secure maintenance, storage, and confidentiality of student, personnel, and school records in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Protect confidential information obtained through professional responsibilities and exercise sound judgment in the appropriate sharing of information.
  • Supervise and evaluate paraprofessional staff to ensure compliance with district standards, expectations, and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to encourage collaboration and shared support for student success.
  • Develop and maintain supervision schedules and procedures for students in classrooms and non-instructional settings, including before and after school activities.
  • Establish a strong academic vision by working collaboratively with staff to maintain rigorous curriculum standards, develop mission-driven goals, and support continuous school improvement.
  • Evaluate, coach, and support certified staff members to strengthen professional growth and instructional effectiveness.
  • Facilitate staff meetings and professional communications to ensure staff remain informed about district initiatives, policies, procedures, and school improvement efforts.
  • Recommend personnel actions, including remediation or dismissal recommendations, in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Coordinate and facilitate parent-teacher conferences and other meetings that support student achievement and communication.
  • Support staff development through in-service training, mentoring, instructional coaching, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleges, universities, and educational partners to support teacher preparation and training programs.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to requests for information from staff, families, district personnel, and community members.
  • Designate appropriate personnel to oversee school operations in the absence of the principal.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, district, families, and community organizations.
  • Approve master schedules, teaching assignments, and special duty assignments to support effective school operations.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field with a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
  • Successful teaching experience at the elementary or junior high school level preferred.
  • Administrative leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, MTSS, school improvement processes, and professional learning communities.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
     
     

Salary/Benefits

 

Compensation for this position will be determined based on qualifications, credentials, and relevant experience. The anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000–$90,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; participation in the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS); paid leave benefits; and other contractual benefits provided by the District.

 

 

Additional Notes

This is a 205 day position, with the principal working 15 days before teachers return and 10 days after teachers complete the school year.
