Assistant Director of Special Services

Duties

To work in concert with the Director of Student Services to ensure the implementation of services to students, staff, and families by fulfilling the essential functions and performance responsibilities expected of the assistant director of special education.  

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be active in the pedagogical community by self-reflecting on performance, seeking feedback, displaying high levels of honesty/integrity/confidentiality, freely sharing ideas with colleagues, effectively communicating with all stakeholders, participating in activities related to professional inquiry.
  2. Participate in Special Services Team (SST) PLC meetings as well as individual school SST meetings.  Promote supportive, reflective, and collaborative relationships; provide leadership, guidance and or assistance within those teams.
  3. Direct individuals/and or stakeholders in order to effectively execute and meet deadlines, to ensure high-quality delivery and compliance of instructional supports and services for students with disabilities, families and the community at large.
  4. Informally and Formally Evaluates district personnel. 
  5. Assist in the processing of district referrals (including birth to three) and chairing IEP meetings as district LEA Representative.
  6. Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate programs, services, methodologies, and curricula for use within the Special Services Department.
  7. Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget related to Special Services programs and personnel.
  8. Assist in monitoring the placement of district students in special education programs for appropriateness, least restrictive environment, adherence to criteria and compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations.
  9. Assist in monitoring the provision of special education transportation for consistency with the student's individualized educational program.
  10. Assist in developing, training, implementing, and supporting professional development initiatives with special education, general education, and instructional support staff to ensure they are properly prepared to support students with disabilities.
  11. Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring child find activities.
  12. Assist in the completion and maintenance of required special education state and federal forms.
  13. Assist in the development of Needs Assessments that reflect both staff and parent needs.
  14. Assist in promoting the state standards and assuring goal development consistent with such state standards for all special education students.
  15. Assist in the collection, compiling, maintaining, and filing of reports, records, and or documents and the analysis of the data.
  16. Assist in activities that use core organizational processes (including planning, communication, decision making, problem-solving, and information management) for operational effectiveness and organizational development.
  17. Serve as a secondary contact person with special education cooperatives and private facilities providing service to district students.
  18. Coordinate delivery of home instruction for homebound or hospitalized students.
  19. Monitoring of a permanent inventory of specialized equipment.
  20. Ensure parental and student rights regarding evaluation, eligibility, services, and discipline are implemented.
  21. Maintain an awareness of proposed or new legislation, rules, and regulations relating to the special education.
  22. Displays a strong knowledge of IDEA, ADA, and other related legal and policy areas related to special education.
  23. Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Ability to communicate effectively with related school personnel and parents regarding Individualized Education Program, curriculum, assessment, differentiation, and special education procedures/law.
  2. Meets all certification requirements including special education endorsement in the state of Illinois.
  3. Special Education teaching experience.
  4. Type 75 Certificate.
  5. Illinois Teacher Evaluator Modules 1-5 completed.

Salary/Benefits

1.    Length of contract 10.5 months, 210 working days with 15 paid holidays

2.    Salary $90,000.00 with additional Admin Compensation and Benefit stipends.
