Assistant Director of Operations

Duties

General Description: 

The Assistant Director of Operations supports the planning, coordination, and supervision of district-wide facilities operations for the Oswego Community Unit School District 308. This position assists in managing maintenance, custodial services, grounds, safety compliance, and facility planning to ensure all district buildings and grounds are safe, functional, and well-maintained learning environments. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Operations  to implement operational strategies, supervise staff, oversee projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain efficient facility operations across all district sites.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the maintenance of school buildings and grounds to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
  • Ensure that all school and rental activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the value of an education.
  • Support the vision of School District 308.
  • Assist with capital construction activities.
  • Plan and oversee all maintenance and repair work to keep buildings and grounds in top condition.
  • Promote the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of buildings and grounds, and establish maintenance and repair schedules for district facilities.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
  • Arrange for the services of outside contractors as needed.
  • Select, assign, schedule, train and evaluate maintenance and ground staff.
  • Order and maintain suitable supplies, tools, and equipment for all district facilities and property.
  • Attend and conduct in-service meetings and staff meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate inventory on maintenance equipment and supplies.
  • Develop a system for dealing with emergency repair problems.
  • Ensure that all activities conform to government regulations protecting the health, safety, and rights of employees and the public (including but not limited to asbestos, hazardous chemicals, access to buildings by the handicapped, and playground safety).
  • Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques within the industry.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related discipline or a combination of education and experience. Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the required duties.
  • Experience as a supervisor of institutional buildings and grounds operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the basic techniques of electrical repair and maintenance, carpentry and grounds maintenance.
  • Experience with school custodial services or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions and/or firms.
  • Working knowledge of local, state and federal laws related to the operations and maintenance of school facilities.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Demonstrated skills in exercising sound judgement when evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong communication and team building skills.
  • Prioritizes equity and rightful presence.

Salary/Benefits

COMPENSATION: The recommended candidate for this position will receive a regionally competitive salary range of $85K-$92K depending on educational background and experience.
