Position Summary

The 6th–8th Grade Math and Science Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes student achievement and growth in mathematics and science. The successful candidate will create a positive learning environment, utilize innovative instructional practices, and collaborate with colleagues, families, and the community to support student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Learning

  • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in middle school mathematics and science.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and hands-on learning opportunities to engage students.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.
  • Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning.

Classroom Environment

  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and positive classroom culture.
  • Promote student responsibility, collaboration, and academic excellence.
  • Implement effective classroom management practices that support student learning.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, interventionists, special education staff, and administration.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress and student needs.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, team meetings, and school improvement initiatives.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with district policies, state requirements, and professional standards.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute positively to the culture and mission of Tonica Grade School.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements.
  • Strong knowledge of middle school mathematics and science curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Effective classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to student growth and academic excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous middle school teaching experience.
  • Experience utilizing educational technology and data-driven instructional practices.
  • Knowledge of standards-based grading and assessment practices.

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary: Compensation will be based on the negotiated rate outlined in the District's current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
