Employment Status: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Paraprofessional/Paraeducator assists teachers and support staff in providing a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment for students. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and specialists to support students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally while helping ensure all students have opportunities to succeed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Assist individual students and small groups with instructional activities as directed by certified staff.
  • Provide academic support in reading, writing, mathematics, and other subject areas.
  • Support students in developing positive social, organizational, and study skills.
  • Assist with implementing accommodations and modifications for students as directed.
  • Encourage student independence while providing appropriate support.

Classroom Assistance

  • Assist teachers with preparing instructional materials and classroom activities.
  • Monitor students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, field trips, and other school functions as assigned.
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and behavioral supports.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, specialists, and support staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, students, and families when appropriate.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications

  • Illinois Paraprofessional License or ability to obtain one.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or 60 college credit hours preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of varying academic and developmental needs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology and educational software.

Salary/Benefits

  •  Salary: Compensation will be based on the negotiated rate outlined in the District's current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
  • Ability to assist students and lift instructional materials as needed.
  • Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor settings.
