Duties
The Behavioral Support Specialist partners with building teams in meeting the behavioral needs
of students in self-contained settings. This role conducts behavioral assessments, develops
intervention plans, and coaches staff in implementing effective behavior supports while assisting
with crisis response and student transitions to less restrictive environments
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 or related special education
endorsement
? Degree in Special Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Applied Behavior
Analysis, or related field
? Minimum of five years providing behavioral support services in school settings
? Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification strongly preferred
Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities
? Experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and developing
Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
? Expertise in crisis prevention and intervention
? Knowledge of applied behavior analysis principles and application in educational settings
? Familiarity/Experience in elementary self-contained special education settings
? Certification in crisis prevention and intervention (e.g., CPI, Eukeru, LSCI)
Essential Responsibilities
Direct Support and Crisis Intervention
? Provide real-time behavioral support to classroom teams, including coaching and
modeling during behavioral escalations and crises
? Support staff in implementing de-escalation strategies, crisis protocols, and
evidence-based behavioral interventions
? Lead or support instruction in social skills and emotional regulation
? Respond to building support calls and assist teams during behavioral incidents
Problem-Solving and Student Transitions
? Collaborate with classroom teams and service providers to problem-solve barriers to
student success and strengthen staff capacity
? Support students transitioning to less restrictive environments through consultation and
co-planning with general education staff
? Model behavioral strategies and monitor student progress to support successful
mainstreaming
Behavioral Assessment and Planning
? Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention
Plans (BIPs)
? Establish data collection systems to monitor student progress and guide intervention
decisions
? Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility determinations, and manifestation determination
reviews
Classroom and Program Behavioral Supports
? Support the development of consistent behavioral systems, routines, and expectations
across assigned classrooms
? Develop visual supports, reinforcement systems, and proactive environmental strategies
to promote positive behavior
Staff Development and Collaboration
? Provide coaching, feedback, and targeted prof
Qualifications
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR LICENSE WITH ELEMENTARY LBS 1 ENDORSEMENT REQUIRED
