Fourth Grade Self-Contained Classroom Substitute (FMLA Leave)
Approximate Dates: September 2026 – March 2027
Waltham School District is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly motivated educator to serve as a long-term substitute teacher for a fourth grade self-contained classroom during an extended maternity leave from approximately September 2026 through March 2027.

This position will work closely with our fourth grade team, consisting of two fourth grade sections within the school. The selected candidate will be responsible for all aspects of classroom instruction and management throughout the duration of the leave.
Responsibilities Include:
- Planning and delivering daily instruction aligned to district curriculum and Illinois Learning Standards
- Creating engaging and supportive learning experiences for students
- Managing all classroom grading, assessment, and progress monitoring
- Maintaining consistent communication with families and staff
- Collaborating with grade-level colleagues and support staff
- Providing a positive, structured, and student-centered classroom environment
- Attending staff meetings, professional collaboration opportunities, and school events as appropriate
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Elementary teaching endorsement preferred
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students

Salary/Benefits
First 10 consecutive days paid at regular substitute teaching pay. After 10 consecutive days, per the Waltham CCSD #185 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
