Duties
Position Summary: With direct supervision from a teacher, provides assistance in implementing plans and
programs related to the academic or functional skill attainment for students with academic, mental, physical, and/or emotional learning challenges. Works directly with students, individually or in small groups. 180 day position (student attendance days and school improvement days)
Classroom Responsibilities:
- Work with individual students or small/large groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
- Display positive communication skills to enhance good classroom relationships with students and teacher
- Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing concepts or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities
- Construct classroom materials and/or worksheets related to academic areas
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
- Help students master instructional materials assigned by the teacher
- Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
- Assist with the supervision of students in all school-directed activities
Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers
- Participate in required meetings and in-service training programs, as assigned
- Communicate with appropriate school personnel on needs of students
- Develop his/her own professional growth through reading, workshops, in-services, conferences and/or coursework
- Maintain a good attendance record
- Conform to School Board Policy
- Perform other duties, as necessary, to provide Program Assistant services as assigned by the Department Coordinator, Principal, or the administrative designee.
Qualifications
Don't have a paraprofessional license? No worries! Take advantage of Short-Term Paraprofessional Approval until June 30, 2026! Requirements include:
- High school diploma (or equivalent), or higher
- At least 19 years of age to serve students in grades PK-22
- While working on the approval, educators must be fulfilling requirements to obtain a license in (3) three years.
Salary/Benefits
- 180 day position (student attendance days and school improvement days)
