Instructional Coach

Duties

JOB GOAL:

Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Building Principal, the instructional coach will work collaboratively, as a colleague, with classroom teachers to support student learning. The Coach will use data and research-based best practices to inform and drive coaching to assist classroom teachers in improving instruction. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices that directly impact student learning.

MAJOR DUTIES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicates and demonstrates research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance
  • Models lessons in classrooms
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, and information to support classroom instruction and
    planning, including new resources
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of all students
  • Support teachers by helping by sharing multiple instructional strategies and processes with teachers
    during planning times
  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth
    and students’ success
  • Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional
    development targeted topics and designs
  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement
  • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and others to use student data to plan, implement, and alter
    instruction
  • Encourage professional growth and provide organized, individual, and/or group learning opportunities
    for teachers
  • Assists teachers with instructional decisions based on assessment data
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches
  • Provides support in analyzing student assessment data.

Qualifications

  • Professional Educators License is required
  • Endorsement(s) in at least one of the following: Reading, ELA, Mathematics is strongly recommended
  • Certificate of good health approved by a licensed physician
  • Demonstration of continuous improvement and lifelong learning to ensure student success
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and
    acceptable
