Duties
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Instructional Support:
- Assist the classroom teacher in delivering and reinforcing daily lessons and instructional activities
- Work with individual students or small groups to provide academic support and re-teaching
- Help adapt and modify instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of students
- Support students with reading, writing, math, and other subject areas as directed by the teacher
- Monitor and document student progress and report observations to the supervising teacher
- Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as assigned
Classroom Support
- Help maintain an organized, safe, and positive classroom environment
- Assist with classroom setup, preparation of materials, and clean-up
- Supervise students during instructional activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and other non-classroom settings
- Reinforce classroom rules, routines, and procedures consistently
- Assist with the use of technology and educational tools in the classroom
Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support
- Implement positive behavior support strategies as directed by the teacher or behavior specialist
- Assist students in developing self-regulation, social, and conflict resolution skills
- Redirect and de-escalate student behavior in a calm and consistent manner
- Document behavioral incidents and interventions accurately
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all students
Special Education Support
Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with disabilities
- Assist students with physical, communicative, and daily living needs as outlined in their IEP
- Support the use of assistive technology, augmentative communication devices, and adaptive equipment
- Accompany and support students in inclusion/general education classrooms
- Assist with personal care needs including feeding, toileting, and mobility when required
- Collect and record data on IEP goals and behavioral interventions
Health & Safety
- Monitor student health and safety throughout the school day
- Report concerns regarding student health, safety, or welfare to the appropriate staff
- Follow all school safety procedures, emergency protocols, and district policies
- Administer basic first aid if trained and as directed by school policy
Communication & Collaboration
- Maintain open and professional communication with teachers, staff, and administrators
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training as required
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and personal information
- Support positive relationships between students, families, and school staff
Qualifications
Applicants must have one of the following qualifications to be eligible for this position: 60 semester hours of college course work or an Associate Degree (or higher) or have passed the ETS Parapro Test or the ACT Work Keys Test.
