School Social Worker

Duties

  • IEP/504 Support: Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams to create, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans.
  • Resource Connection: Identify at-risk youth and link families with external resources like housing assistance, medical care, food banks, and youth justice services.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate with parents to address environmental or economic barriers that affect a student's ability to learn.
  • Teacher Support: Consult with educators and administrators to develop classroom behavior management strategies and trauma-sensitive practices.
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS): Help design and implement school-wide prevention programs, such as bullying prevention and character development
  • Counseling: Provide individual and group therapy to students.
  • Crisis Intervention: Act as first responder for emotional distress, safety threats, abuse/neglect disclosures, and conflict resolution.
  • Assessments: Conduct clinical evaluations, social-developmental histories, and functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to determine student needs

Qualifications

Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Social Work endorsement through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
