Director of Special Education

Duties

Hinckley-Big Rock CUSD #429 is seeking a collaborative, student-centered leader to serve as Director of Special Education. This position provides strategic leadership, oversight, and compliance management for all special education programs and services across the district.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision of all special education programs, staff, and services
  • Ensure district compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations 
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) & 504 Plans
  • Support principals and staff in meeting the diverse needs of students with disabilities
  • Manage special education staffing, programming, and budgets
  • Facilitate professional development for staff related to special education best practices
  • Coordinate with outside agencies, cooperatives, and service providers
  • Lead problem-solving and student support processes
  • Serve as a resource for families 

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative endorsement
  • Director of Special Education endorsement (or eligibility)
  • Successful experience in special education teaching and/or administration
  • Strong knowledge of special education law and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Hiring range: $75,000-$80,000
  • 205-day administrative contract
