K-4 Speech Language Pathologist (Washington, IL)

Duties

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Identifies and provides appropriate services for children with communication disorders in the following areas: phonological/articulation disorders, stuttering/disfluency, voice disorders, language disorders, speech-language disorders from hearing impairments, speech-language disorders from organic anomalies.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides screening to identify children with speech and language delays at regular intervals and at specified levels.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate individualized programs or therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech and language delays.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy techniques by providing suggestions for the student's daily activities.
  • Provides information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
  • Compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are required.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research
  • Encourages parental involvement in speech education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school standards and school district discipline policies.
  • Utilizes current therapy methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates therapy based upon student learning styles.
  • Applies knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Obtains knowledge of computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Organizes and coordinates work.
  • Communicates effectively with students and parents.
  • Engages in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Administers speech/language standardized tests as required.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal/assistant principal, district office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
  • Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
 

  • Valid and appropriate Illinois licensure.
  • Speech Language Pathologist endorsement required.
  • Complete required professional development to retain certification.
  • Successful completion of fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.
