Position Summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field (required)
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong knowledge of upper elementary curriculum and instructional best practices
  • Effective classroom management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in an upper elementary classroom
  • Background in differentiated instruction and data-driven decision making
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and digital learning tools
  • Additional endorsements (e.g., Reading, ESL, Special Education)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the classroom for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and outdoor settings

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of all learners
  • Use data and assessments to guide instructional decisions and monitor student progress
  • Create a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and safety
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies aligned with school expectations
  • Integrate technology and innovative instructional practices to enhance learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and communication
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to support student achievement
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school improvement efforts
  • Support school events and contribute positively to the Tonica school community
