Duties

Summary
This position is responsible for working closely with students with and without disabilities on a regular basis in an effort to assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency.

  • Administer formal diagnostic evaluations and informal assessments pertaining to communication disorders.
  • Obtain additional diagnostic information from appropriate person(s) and available records for speech/language services.
  • Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech/language services.
  • Manage the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
  • Monitor and reports on the progress of students on therapist’s class list.
  • Schedule/plan/monitor interventions using a variety of service delivery models to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
  • Provide direct instruction that enables the student to progress toward goals and objectives on the IEP.
  • Maintain records of speech/language program and prepare periodic reports as required.
  • Maintain lesson plans/logs and attendance of each student.
  • Collaborate/consult with classroom teachers, other school personnel and parents on implementation of students’ IEPs.
  • Complete records for third party reimbursement.
  • Maintain appropriate behavioral management during therapy in order to create a positive learning environment that is safe for all children.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Attend initial CPI training and annual CPI refresher training and upholds a valid certification.
  • Follow policies and procedures of the special education cooperative(s)/building(s) to which the teacher is assigned.    
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • The schedule is subject to change with district demands in compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

  • Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Support Personnel Endorsement in Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Certified as per Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
  • Maintain a license by Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents and students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 10 lbs.
