Duties
Summary
This position is responsible for working closely with students with and without disabilities on a regular basis in an effort to assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency.
- Administer formal diagnostic evaluations and informal assessments pertaining to communication disorders.
- Obtain additional diagnostic information from appropriate person(s) and available records for speech/language services.
- Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech/language services.
- Manage the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
- Monitor and reports on the progress of students on therapist’s class list.
- Schedule/plan/monitor interventions using a variety of service delivery models to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
- Provide direct instruction that enables the student to progress toward goals and objectives on the IEP.
- Maintain records of speech/language program and prepare periodic reports as required.
- Maintain lesson plans/logs and attendance of each student.
- Collaborate/consult with classroom teachers, other school personnel and parents on implementation of students’ IEPs.
- Complete records for third party reimbursement.
- Maintain appropriate behavioral management during therapy in order to create a positive learning environment that is safe for all children.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Attend initial CPI training and annual CPI refresher training and upholds a valid certification.
- Follow policies and procedures of the special education cooperative(s)/building(s) to which the teacher is assigned.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- The schedule is subject to change with district demands in compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
