Head of Maintenance (Anticipated)

Duties

Tonica Grade School is seeking a reliable, self-motivated Head of Maintenance/Custodian to lead custodial and maintenance operations. This individual is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained learning environment for students, staff, and the community while supervising custodial staff and coordinating facility upkeep.

Qualifications

  • Meets qualifications as established by the Board of Education

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment

  • Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently

  • Ability to supervise and lead custodial staff

  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and crawl in confined spaces

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and 100 lbs with assistance

Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits are established per the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Additional Notes

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily custodial and maintenance operations of district facilities and grounds

  • Supervise custodians and seasonal/summer maintenance staff

  • Perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and mechanical systems; maintain required logs and documentation

  • Coordinate and communicate with vendors and contractors for inspections and repairs

  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, cafeteria, gymnasiums, and locker rooms

  • Monitor and maintain HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and electrical systems within skill set

  • Respond promptly to maintenance and custodial requests

  • Assist with event setup/teardown and school activities

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and life-safety regulations (ROE, Fire Marshal, etc.)

  • Perform seasonal duties including snow removal and grounds maintenance

  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment

  • Support emergency procedures and drills as needed

Additional Expectations

  • Maintain a high level of visibility and responsiveness during work hours

  • Follow all district policies, safety procedures, and work expectations

  • Be available for call-ins related to building needs or weather events as directed

  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying and addressing facility needs
