Elementary Assistant Principal

Duties

Instructional Leadership
The assistant principal will lead staff in results-driven practices and processes in support of learning for all students
by engaging in the following:

I. The assistant principal will live a mission and vision focused on results. The assistant principal will work with the staff and community to build a shared mission and vision of high expectations that ensures all students are on the path to college and career readiness and holds the staff accountable for result.

II. The assistant principal will lead and manage systems change. The assistant principal will create and implement systems to ensure a safe, orderly and productive environment for student and adult learning toward the achievement of school and district improvement priorities.

III. The assistant principal will improve teaching and learning. The assistant principal will work with the school staff and community to develop a research-based framework for effective teaching and learning that is refined continually to improve instruction for all students.

IV. The assistant principal will build and maintain collaborative relationships. The assistant principal will create a collaborative school community where the school staff, families and community interact regularly and share ownership for the success of the school.

V. The assistant principal will lead with integrity and professionalism. The assistant principal will work with the school staff and community to create a positive context for learning by ensuring equity, fulfilling professional responsibilities with honesty and integrity, and serving as a model for the professional behavior of others.

VI. The assistant principal will create and sustain a culture of high expectations. The assistant principal will work with staff and community to build a culture of high expectations and aspirations for every student by setting clear staff and student expectations for positive learning behaviors and by focusing on students’ social-emotional learning.

Responsibilities
The assistant principal will:

• Assist in the development of a staffing plan that is submitted to Human Resources
• Assist the building principal in the development of a balanced budget to be submitted to the Director of Finance and aid in the monitoring of the overall school and departmental budgets
• Assist in the development of a Master Schedule and Staff Supervision Schedule that support student learning
• Serve as a support to the building level fiscal agent (principal) ensuring that bookkeeping functions are being performed using best accounting practices and procedures to monitor school programs (i.e. National School Lunch Program) established by the District are being followed
• Share responsibility for building operations and maintenance
• Uphold Board of Education and central office policies and procedures
• Enforce student handbook and building procedures
• Address issues relative to staff and student attendance and behavior
• Assist in the oversight, inventory, purchase, and organization of all materials and fixed assets
• Coordination and oversight of all testing logistics for state and local benchmark assessments
• Assist in the Oversight of building level vendor and service contracts
• Assist in the Coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the building level crisis plan
• Supervise school activities and events
• Evaluate certified and noncertified employees as assigned by the building principal
• Provide oversight and leadership to the instructional programming of the school
• Assist the principal in the School Improvement process and serve as the data processing manager
• Oversee all disaster and crisis plans inclusive of drills
• Responsible for overseeing Tier II and Tier III intervention program
• Serve as a member of the building Crisis Team

Qualifications

Qualified candidate should:
• Hold a Current Illinois Professional Educator License with a Principal Endorsement
• Have knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards
• Be an instructional leader
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
• Have knowledge or experience related to Professional Learning Communities
• Demonstrate commitment to student achievement and school improvement
• Celebrate diversity within the school community
• Support 21st Century Learning and Teaching
• Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to personal professional development

Salary/Benefits

Hiring range: $80,000-$94,930

Salary range: $80,000-$102,396

Additional Notes

 

Desirable Qualifications: Successful experience in a diverse school setting; Elementary teaching experience; ability to work well in a team.
