Student Support Specialist

Duties

Revive High School and Phoenix Jr. High are looking for a Guidance Counselor or Student Support Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year.

Our schools focus on students' social-emotional health through trauma-informed practices. As the Student Support Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in fostering the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students within the Alternative Education Program. You will be responsible for establishing a consistent schedule of individual and group sessions to refine social-relational skills and character development. Your impact will extend beyond the classroom as you guide graduating students through the complexities of college admissions, employment, or military enlistment, while also facilitating a smooth transition for those returning to traditional school settings. A core component of this role involves bridge-building: you will cultivate strong partnerships with parents to enhance the home-school connection, collaborate closely with staff to provide holistic student support, and refer families to external professional services when necessary.

The ideal candidate is a proactive communicator who maintains meticulous records, leads with empathy in issue-oriented student groups, and remains committed to professional excellence by supervising state assessments and participating in ongoing staff development.

Description of Duties:

  • Establish a regular schedule for meeting with students and conducting student groups
  • Work with individual students on improving their social and relational skills as they correspond to the regular classroom and the world at large 
  • Work with graduating students in obtaining information and acceptance into college for continuing their educational process, and/or obtaining employment or military status 
  • Lead small groups concerning character education, life skills, etc.
  • Contact parents and establish a working relationship with them to improve parent-school relationship as well as identify areas of weakness 
  • Assist with follow-up services to students returning to the regular school
  • Refer students and families to professional services as needed 
  • Form and facilitate appropriate support of issue-oriented student groups 
  • Consult and plan with Alternative Education Programs staff; keep teachers abreast of student changes, emotions, home environment, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate records of services performed and contacts made
  • Attend all staffings of students and prospective students
  • Attend professional development activities as needed to enhance the quality of the educational program
  • Administer/supervise all mandatory state assessments
  • Perform other duties as requested by the administrator or according to the guidelines of the project

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • Appropriate counselor license and/or other qualifications lending to the description of duties
  • Possess concern for students who are classified “at-risk” and are willing to assist these students in acquiring the necessary academic and personal skills needed to successfully return to their home school and/or interact with the world at large
