Special Education Teacher Intensive Instructional Program (IIP) - Leave of Absence (08/17/2026 - 10/26/26)

Duties

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:?

  1. Develop, implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs, Functional Analysis of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans. Generate any and all appropriate IEP paperwork including progress reports at appropriate times.
  2. Act as team leader to coordinate services and meetings, collaborate with administrators, and guide paraprofessionals.
  3. Understand and implement a functional life skills curriculum for middle school students.
  4. Assess students' developmental, cognitive and social needs, and provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs.
  5. Establish developmentally appropriate instructional and behavioral expectations for students and communicate those to students and their families.
  6. Develop, implement, and monitor specialized, research-based instruction programs and assistive tech to meet students' unique needs.
  7. Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful, and interesting as well as multicultural gender and ability fair, and developmentally appropriate.
  8. Select, adapt and individualize materials appropriate for diverse student populations and skill level.
  9. Assist with student toileting/hygiene.
  10. Use a variety of assessment strategies, including data gathering, to support the continuous development of students and monitor student progress.
  11. Develop transition plans for students as they move to high school in compliance with state regulations.
  12. Initiate and facilitate ongoing communication with parents and IEP team members regarding student needs and progress.
  13. Recognize student needs and seek the assistance of other professional staff helping students solve emotional, physical and academic difficulties.
  14. Attend and facilitate parent/teacher conferences, team meetings, and IEP meetings.
  15. Attend building and district meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid Illinois PEL Licence with a LBS 1 endorsement.
  • Be highly qualified in reading and math.
