Instructional Leadership
The assistant principal will lead staff in results-driven practices and processes in support of learning for all students by engaging in the following:
I. The assistant principal will live a mission and vision focused on results. The assistant principal will work with the staff and community to build a shared mission and vision of high expectations that ensures all students are served within an environment that focuses on advocacy, compassion, and individuality for specialized learners.
II. The assistant principal will lead and manage systems change. The assistant principal will create and implement systems to ensure a safe, orderly and productive environment for student and adult learning toward the achievement of school and district improvement priorities.
III. The assistant principal will improve teaching and learning. The assistant principal will work with the school staff and community to develop a research-based framework for effective teaching and learning that is refined continually to improve instruction for all students.
IV. The assistant principal will build and maintain collaborative relationships. The assistant principal will create a collaborative school community where the school staff, families and community interact regularly and share ownership for the success of the school.
V. The assistant principal will lead with integrity and professionalism. The assistant principal will work with the school staff and community to create a positive context for learning by ensuring equity, fulfilling professional responsibilities with honesty and integrity, and serving as a model for the professional behavior of others.
VI. The assistant principal will create and sustain a culture of high expectations. The assistant principal will work with staff and community to build a culture of high expectations and aspirations for every student by setting clear staff and student expectations for positive learning behaviors and by focusing on students’ social-emotional learning.
Responsibilities:
The assistant principal will:
• Uphold Board of Education and central office policies and procedures
• Enforce student handbook and building procedures
• Support the continuous improvement plan for the building in partnership with building principal
• Oversight and leadership to the instructional programming of the school
• Evaluate certified and noncertified employees as assigned by the building principal
• Assist in the development of a Master Schedule and staff supervision schedule
• Assist in the development of a staffing plan that is submitted to Human Resources
• Serve as the special education team leader responsible for leading and coordinating the special education process, including, but not limited to: IEP meeting facilitation, scheduling, documentation, program coordination, and data management.
• Assist the building principal in the development of a balanced budget to be submitted to the Director of Finance and aid in the monitoring of the overall school and departmental budgets with the Director of Special Education
• Coordinate and facilitate problem solving meetings to support individual needs of students
• Share responsibility for building operations and maintenance
• Address issues relative to staff and student attendance and behavior
• Supervise school activities and events
• Coordinate, plan and have administrative responsibilities for district ESY programming, in collaboration with principal
• Oversee and lead the building Crisis Response Team, including the development, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of all disaster and crisis plans, as well as the execution of drills.
• Serve as district coordinator for Dynamic Learning Map (DLM)
• Coordinate and plan for administration of Alternate Access for applicable students at Hope Wall
• Collaborate with District 131 special education teams to support students and referrals
• Assist in the oversight, inventory, purchase, and organization of all materials and fixed assets
• Assist in the oversight of building level vendor and service contracts
• Support the principal in fiscal oversight, ensuring bookkeeping aligns with best practices and district-established program guidelines
• Other duties as assigned by the building principal
Qualifications
VALID ILLINOIS PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR LICENSE WITH GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE ENDORSEMENT REQUIRED
LBS OR RELATED SERVICE ENDORSEMENT REQUIRED
Required Qualifications: Experience and knowledge of Special Education instruction, procedures, and policies; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Familiarity with students with low incidence disabilities, significant communication and mobility needs; 3-5 Years of Special Education teaching/related service experience.
Salary/Benefits
Hiring range: $88,000- $112,217
Salary range: $88,000- $124,325
Additional Notes
Desirable Qualifications: ESL endorsement/Bilingual (Spanish); Experience in working in diverse communities; Experience working with multilingual students and families; 1-3 Years Administrative or Leadership Experiences.
