Duties
The Deputy Superintendent serves as the Superintendent’s strategic partner, responsible for ensuring alignment and execution of the Superintendent’s initiatives.
This role provides day-to-day executive collaboration with district operations, academic performance systems, leadership development, student support services, workforce strategy, and communications functions to ensure cohesive implementation of the District’s strategic plan.
The Deputy Superintendent serves as acting Superintendent in the Superintendent’s absence.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Alignment & Execution
- Oversees implementation of the District Strategic Plan.
- Monitors progress toward key performance indicators.
- Collaborates in cross-functional problem-solving to remove barriers to execution.
2. Leadership & District Management
- Creates cabinet meeting agenda and occasionally facilitates meeting.
- Recommends resource allocation to district priorities.
- Supports the Superintendent in coordinating day-to-day operational priorities, initiatives, and organizational logistics to ensure effective execution and alignment of district goals.
3. Organizational Effectiveness
- Identifies system inefficiencies and recommends structural improvements.
- Leads major district initiatives and special projects as assigned by Superintendent.
- Coordinates districtwide planning processes.
- Strengthens internal communication and coordination systems.
5. Governance & Board Relations
- Supports Superintendent in preparation for Board meetings and manages agenda timelines.
- Ensures high-quality Board reports and performance updates.
- Provides executive-level analysis of district initiatives.
- Assists with policy development and implementation.
- Ensures compliance with Board policies and state regulations.
6. Crisis Leadership & Executive Oversight
- Coordinates cross-departmental response during emergencies.
- Provides executive decision-making support during crises.
- Ensures continuity of operations planning.
- Serves as acting Superintendent when designated.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

- Improve districtwide performance systems assigned by Superintendent
Qualifications
Education
- Master degree preferred
- Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative Endorsement
Experience
- Minimum eight (8) years of senior leadership experience in public education
- Experience supervising executive-level leaders
- Demonstrated success leading districtwide improvement initiatives
- Experience with Board governance and public sector leadership

Salary/Benefits
An expected annual salary of $240,000, fringe benefits, and work year as established by the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance evaluated annually by the Superintendent.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Status: Revised February 2026
