Duties
Job Summary: The Assistant Principal supports the building principal in providing dynamic leadership to create a safe, inclusive, and academically enriching environment for students, staff, and the school community. This role assists in the implementation of instructional programs, student discipline systems, and daily school operations, while promoting high expectations for student achievement and supporting the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of all students.
The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with staff, students, families, and district leadership to ensure alignment with district goals, policies, and continuous improvement efforts. Responsibilities may vary slightly depending on assignment at the elementary (EL) or middle school (MS) level.
Reports to: Principal, Superintendent, and/or Assistant Superintendent of Schools
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of district policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Support the supervision and administration of the school building, including daily operations and student supervision.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for all students and staff.
- Support student discipline systems, including investigation, documentation, restorative practices, and communication with families.
- Collaborate with the principal in monitoring building climate, morale, and working conditions.
- Assist in the supervision, evaluation, and support of assigned staff in accordance with district policy and collective bargaining agreements.
- Provide support in curriculum implementation and instructional practices to promote student achievement.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Assist in resolving problems, concerns, and complaints, keeping the principal and district administration informed as appropriate.
- Participate in the development and implementation of school improvement goals and building-level initiatives.
- Assist in organizing and supervising school events, activities, and programs.
- Support the implementation of state and district assessment programs and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Assist in monitoring student attendance, behavior, and academic progress, and implement appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with special education staff in staffing, program development, and annual review processes, including support of IEP and 504 plan implementation.
- Assist in the dissemination and implementation of student support plans, including 504 plans and behavior intervention plans.
- Participate in student services team meetings, problem-solving teams, and MTSS processes.
- Support communication with parents regarding student progress, behavior, and school programs.
- Assist in coordinating supervision schedules, duties, and building logistics.
- Participate in staff development and support professional learning opportunities for staff.
- Attend meetings and professional development activities at the local, state, and national level as appropriate.
- Assist in completing reports, documentation, and required clerical functions.
- Occasionally serve as acting principal in the absence of the building principal.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or designee.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:
- Appropriate Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative Endorsement Type 75.
- Master's Degree in Education or Educational Leadership.
- Completion of graduate coursework in educational administration and supervision.
- Minimum of four years of successful teaching experience at the elementary or middle school level.
- Meets requirements for evaluation of certified personnel as required by the Illinois School Code.
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and student support systems.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Emotionally and physically able to perform the duties required of the assignment.

The following procedure will be followed:

- Based upon the assessment of the application, the most promising candidates will be contacted for a personal interview.
- Following the interview process, a written recommendation will be prepared supporting the employment decision.
- The recommendation for employment will be presented by the Superintendent to the Board of Education for consideration and action.
- Those candidates who were interviewed will be notified of the Board's decision.
