District Librarian/Media Specialist APPLY ONLINE

Duties

SUMMARY
Provide each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual probing, growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take advantage of the library and media center resources.

  • Provide a variety of media materials and services appropriate to the instructional needs of staff and students.
  • Preview, select, and direct the ordering and processing of new acquisitions to the library collection, according to District Policy, including, but not limited to periodicals, reading counts, materials and equipment for faculty.
  • Answer inquiries promptly and courteously including processing and distributing emails and district mails.
  • Prepare and balance library budget based on established goals.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports, records and statistics for library/media center.
  • Attend mandatory in-service seminars.
  • Annually develop and suggest goals and improvements for professional growth and development.
  • Collect and properly stamp district textbooks to be repaired.
  • Assist Title I Coordinator and maintain materials for Accelerator Reader program.
  • Work cooperatively with other faculty members to share resources and assistance as needed.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instruct teachers and students on the use of the system.
  • Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
  • Assist students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
  • Arrange frequently changing book displays and exhibits likely to interest the students.
  • Maintain accurate records of various library items.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all staff members.
  • Provide a safe environment for students and staff as per the risk management plan.
  • Teach District approved curriculum.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, including remote instruction.
  • Plan a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules and enforces policies and rules governing students.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Provide guidance and leadership for paraprofessionals assigned in their classroom.
  • Assist in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of district specialists.
  • Evaluate academic and social growth of students, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with students and parents regarding progress in class. 
  • Communicate positive achievements on a regular basis with all stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, parents, and families.
  • Remain available to students and parents, for education and relationship building-related purposes, for events outside the instructional day including but not limited to: orientations, open houses, concerts, and promotion activities, where their participation is necessary for the success of the event. This will not exceed three (3) events per school year.
  • Maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all stakeholders - fellow employees, students, parents, and community members.
  • Communicate in a professional, acceptable, and courteous manner with all stakeholders - fellow employees, students, parents, and community members.
  • Perform all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by administration.

SCHEDULING
Working hours will be 7:40 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. The schedule is subject to change with district demands in compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois teaching certificate, with appropriate endorsement required by state law.
  • Must be familiar with the use of Google Suite and other online platforms.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators and the general public.
  • Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
