Duties
Summary:
Assist in the planning, coordination, and provision of safe and efficient transportation of students with disabilities as part of District #843 transportation operations in a fiscally responsible manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain school bus routing and scheduling information to maximum utilization of equipment and manpower for both the regular school year and the Extended School Year (ESY).
- Assist with assigning drivers and monitors to routes, including the assignment of substitute drivers and monitors.
- Assist with the allocation of vehicles and staff for all field trips/charters.
- Must be prepared to drive any type of district provided vehicle at any moment.
- Dispatch and monitor radio traffic and location information for more than 65 personnel simultaneously.
- Answer the phone in a manner that is professional.
- Respond to phone calls and complaints from district personnel and/or parents and guardians concerning all phases of work not requiring action by the Assistant Director or Director.
- Serve as a role model through positive communication with students, bus drivers, other staff, and parents.
- Utilize knowledge of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) transportation regulations.
- Obtain and/or maintain qualifications as a trainer of individuals for the purposes of acquiring a CDL with passenger endorsement.
- Coordinate and oversee bus evacuation drills.
- Maintain proper records for students, staff, and as legally required by DOT and ISBE.
- Review employee time sheets and day counts as it relates to payroll.
- Assist with the management of the fleet including dispatching replacement buses for vehicles involved in accidents, arranging for towing services, ensuring vehicles are properly licensed and processed through safety lane, and assisting with the scheduling of repairs and maintenance on vehicles, as needed.
- Assist with the planning and presentation of materials at monthly staff meetings.
- Assist with the inspection of physical facilities of the terminal and buses for such factors as cleanliness, safety, and appearance, and takes required actions in order to meet prescribed standards.
- Assist with the investigations into cause of accidents, interviews operators concerned to determine responsibility, and submitting reports to the Assistant Director or Director.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle and feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with passenger endorsement
Computer and phone skills, including familiarity with transportation software and Microsoft Office suite
Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
Ability to multi-task in a high stress environment
