Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Valid Professional Educator License
  • Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS 1) Endorsement
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

Performance Responsibilities: 

  • Assess student progress towards targets and standards, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Communicate clearly and accurately with students and parents to provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  • Deliver instruction to engage all students, adjusting lessons based on student progress to enhance academic and interpersonal skills.
  • Design instructional materials that align with individual learning plans and state and district standards.
  • Administer assessments to evaluate student competency and plan for instructional groups.
  • Direct and support student teachers, instructional assistants, and volunteers to provide an effective classroom program.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records to monitor student progress.
  • Manage student behavior, classroom procedures, and physical space to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Reflect on teaching strategies and lesson effectiveness to improve student achievement.
  • Respond to emergencies and report incidents to ensure student safety and compliance with policies.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations, creating a conducive learning environment.
  • Plan programs that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Encourage and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and materials suitable for students needs.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for lessons and units.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive school environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and a strong sense of community among students and staff.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to enhance the educational environment, demonstrating a positive attitude and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy, and goals, and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Regularly assess student accomplishments and provide progress reports.
  • Collaborate in identifying and addressing the needs of students with specialized requirements.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend faculty meetings, in-service sessions, and serve on committees as needed.
  • Meet accepted criteria and standards of professional performance.

Special Education Staff Specific:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA, Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) regulations, and district procedures.
  • Design and deliver specialized instruction aligned to students’ IEP goals in academic, functional, social-emotional, communication, and behavioral domains.
  • Differentiate curriculum and modify grade-level standards to meet the individual learning needs of students with disabilities.
  • Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and maintain detailed documentation of student performance toward IEP goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, including preparation of required documentation, data reports, and parent communication.
  • Collaborate with related service providers (speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, psychologists) to ensure coordinated service delivery.
    Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and intervention programs appropriate for students with diverse learning and developmental needs.
  • Develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and provide positive behavioral supports in alignment with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies and crisis prevention techniques to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Provide instruction in functional life skills, adaptive behavior, communication skills, and social skills as appropriate to student needs.
  • Integrate assistive technology and alternative communication systems (e.g., AAC devices, visual supports) as needed.
  • Coordinate and supervise paraprofessionals and instructional assistants assigned to the classroom, including delegation of responsibilities and instructional guidance.
  • Support students in accessing inclusive opportunities within the general education environment when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, service logs, Medicaid documentation (if applicable), and required state reporting.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, supports, and strategies to reinforce learning at home.
  • Ensure adherence to safety plans, medical protocols, and student-specific care plans as required.
  • Create a structured, predictable classroom environment with visual schedules, routines, and clear expectations to support student success.

Working Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment with work inside about 90% of the time and work outside about 10% of the work schedule.

  • Salt Creek School District 48 offers one of the highest compensation packages in DuPage County
  • Salary and benefits to be established in the Negotiated Agreement with the Board of Education. Commensurate with experience, however, the starting salary for the 2026-27 school year is $52,680.79 (full-time).
