Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Valid Professional Educator License
- Three to five years of classroom experience preferred
- Library coursework or Masters of Library Information preferred
- Strong technology skills

Performance Responsibilities:
- Create a Library Media Center atmosphere that reflects and celebrates the diverse nature of our learning community to encourage the love of reading and learning in all.
- Work collaboratively with the district and building administration to create an equitable schedule that meets the needs of our students and staff in each of our three buildings.
- Ensure Library Media Center alignment with the following standards and legislation:
–Illinois Learning Standards
–AASL National School Library Standards for Learners
–I-SAIL: Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries
–International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards
- Select, evaluate, and maintain the library materials collection, including print and electronic resources, following the District Library Collection Development Policy.
- Create and maintain a current, comprehensive Library Media Center website and materials catalog to serve the research and recreational reading needs of students and staff.
- Keep current with literary trends and preferences to support literacy goals and encourage lifelong readers.
- Develop instructional units on the use of library resources and tools, including digital media literacy.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop instructional units on the use of library resources and tools.
- Assist staff in identifying appropriate and differentiated instructional resources to support literacy goals.
- Instruct classes and individuals in the use of library materials, services, and research techniques for efficient access to information.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers in the development and implementation of hands-on learning activities to support classroom units and instructional objectives.
- Prepare bibliographies and LibGuides (research guides), and pull materials to support classroom units and instructional objectives.
- Provide guidance on copyright, fair use, and appropriate use of materials and citations for students and staff.
- Encourage students and staff to give recommendations for library materials to be added to our collection.
- Conduct periodic in-service meetings and professional development for staff in the use of library resources to support literacy initiatives.
- Maintain confidential library records for students and staff.
- Set and supervise the work hours and tasks of library paraprofessionals and clerical staff as determined by district policy.
- Finds and shares sources of information about new instructional strategies.
- Creates a safe environment for instructional innovation.
- Keep current with best practice research (through workshops, reading materials, conferences, journals, etc.) and provide support for the implementation of chosen models.
- Communicates and highlights exemplary activities within the library to community members.
- Assists in the identification of exemplary students and staff.
- Collects and analyzes data for a variety of purposes.
- Assumes accountability for ordering and inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Responsible for management and maintenance of equipment, inventories, and physical space.
Other Responsibilities:
Other duties as assigned by administration.
Participates as a member of the district Technology Committee and provides Tier 1 support for the technology needs throughout the building.
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment with work inside about 90% of the time and work outside about 10% of the work schedule.
