High School English Teaching Position APPLY ONLINE

Duties

1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. 

2. Teach content and skills in the English language literature, and composition as well as in reading    to secondary students in a classroom, utilizing course of study approved and adapted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities as guidelines in teaching individual course content. 

3.Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district. 

4.Prepare for classes assigned, and display written evidence of preparation upon request of building principal. 

5.Establish and maintain a set of classroom rules and procedures that are consistent with the District policies and Board of Education approved Student Handbook. 

6.Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 

7.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 

8.Evaluate student progress on a regular basis. 

9.Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. 

10.Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy. 

11.Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. 

12.Attend and participate in faculty meetings. 

13.Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. 

14.Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. 

15.Accepts a share of the responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned. 

16.Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. 

17.Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with administration and principals. 

18.Provide for her/his own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning. 

19.Incorporate Illinois State Standards and other mandated standards into instruction of students. 

20.Prepare students for State Testing Program in accordance to the District Educational Plan. 

21.Develop, implement, and consistently update units of instruction. 

22.Performs specializing in library materials, locating information, and evaluating resources. 

23.Collaborates with teachers to integrate research, information retrieval skills, and literature appreciation into the curriculum. 

24.Uses a variety of materials to stimulate learning to help student achievement. 

25.Maintains an attractive and inviting physical environment in the library. 

26.Selects materials and technology which support the school’s educational philosophy and curriculum.

27.Cooperate with the school district administration, principals, and staff.  

Qualifications

 1 An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or 
       university. 
 2.  A Type 9 standard teaching certificate with an English Endorsement.

 3.  A Master's Degree in the English Content Area is preferred.
