Benefits Specialist

Duties

PURPOSE:  Supports the Business Services Department in pursuit of the District's annual strategic plan goals. Administers various employee benefit plans including but not limited to life, health, dental, and disability. Works with payroll and HR to coordinate changes in benefits related to employment changes and leaves of absence.


QUALIFICATIONS:


1. B.A. or B.S. degree (relevant work experience may be substituted for degree)
2. Strong problem solving, organizational and presentation skills
3. Able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels
4. Demonstrated proficiency in Google workspace (including advanced use of Sheets and document collaboration tools), MS Office (including Word and Excel)
5. Motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail; 
6. Persistent, accurate, sense of urgency and professional
7. Team orientation and customer service focused
8. Experience with Benefitsolver preferred 
9. 1-3 years benefit administration experience preferred


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Serves as the main point of contact for benefit related employee inquiries.
2. Provides support for benefits orientation to new hires.
3. Completes monthly reporting on financial and enrollment activity.
4. Processes benefit enrollments, changes and cancellations.
5. Handles the annual benefits open enrollment from system set up to transfer of benefit enrollments and changes to insurance carriers.
6. Continually develops and promotes the wellness program.
7. Coordinates monthly payments to various vendors.
8. Maintains vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations.
9. Assists in preparing materials and in presenting benefits plan changes to employees.
10. Attends committee meetings when the topic of benefits is on the agenda.
11. Analyzes employee utilization of current benefits and develops specific recommendations for review by management.
12. Participates in benefits surveys and analyzes results to determine organization's market relationship.
13. Collects sensitive information during collective bargaining negotiations for successor agreements.
14. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all District information, including information developed or maintained by the Board of Education or Administrators with regard to labor relations and collective bargaining, under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services.
15. Oversees the workers compensation program and benefits of the District and consults with the Assistant Superintendent on such issues.
16. Assists with the application, approval and administration of leave rights and benefits under the Family Medical Leave Act. 
17. Complies with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20 pound items.


TERM:  Full-time (1.0 FTE), 12 months


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services/CSBO


SALARY:   $62,500 - $75,000
