Duties

Assistant Band Director

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct and assist with concert and marching band rehearsals.
  • Lead or assist with jazz band, pep band, musical pit orchestra, and/or various chamber ensembles.
  • Support all band activities, including concerts, competitions, parades, athletic events, etc.
  • Teach and reinforce marching fundamentals and visual concepts.
  • Lead drill instruction for nationally-competitive marching band.
  • Assist with program logistics, including budgets, inventories, and fundraising.
  • Help coordinate travel, instrument maintenance, and student leadership.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to maintain strong community support and to ensure student success.
  • Foster a positive and productive learning environment that fosters student growth and development.
  • Recruit and retain students while maintaining high performance standards.
  • Substitute teaching 1-2 periods a day, as needed, and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute positively to the overall school community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from an accredited institution.
  • Valid state teaching certificate/license for music.
  • Experience in marching & concert band, as a performer and/or instructor.
  • Background in woodwinds and/or jazz is beneficial, but not required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proven experience in teaching high school students preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Effective classroom management and discipline skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Passion for student learning and a commitment to professional growth.

Salary/Benefits

Salary:10 months – Starting base salary of $44,100 with opportunity for higher base salary depending on experience, education level, and credentials.
