Duties

Job Summary & Essential Functions: Under the direction of the Executive Director of Staff and Student Services, the Director of Student Services is responsible for assisting in the areas of leadership and supervision of students with disabilities.

 

Specific Duties:

  •  Coordinates the district’s services designed to identify students for special education and related services. Oversees the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 plans and evaluates program success. 
  • Ensures all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans are in compliance and meet federal and state regulations.
  • Represents and serves as LEA representative for all students in out-of-district placements.
  • Works with the business office to verify special education students and corresponding costs associated with needs.
  • Assists building principals in the hiring and evaluation of special education staff providing services.
  • Collects data related to students with disabilities and their programming and makes staffing recommendations to the Superintendent.
  • Works cooperatively with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction and building administration to oversee the evaluation and interpretation of the educational progress of students with disabilities and those students in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process.
  • Provides district-wide leadership and support for behavioral and social-emotional services by developing, implementing, and monitoring evidence-based behavioral practices that promote positive student outcomes across schools.
  • Coordinates the placement of individual students with special needs in those educational situations best suited to their deficit areas.
  • Acts as a liaison between families, staff, and administration to resolve conflicts and support student success.
  • Oversees training for paraprofessionals employed by the district.
  • Plans and/or implements professional development to support the delivery of instruction for students with disabilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional development; for keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved techniques in specialized areas; and for attending appropriate professional meetings.
  • Supports the placement of individual students with special needs in those educational situations best suited to their requirements.
  • Communicates with staff, parents, and community about the continuum of services for students with disabilities.
  • Oversees transitions from early intervention to school-based services and preschool programming including placement and screenings.
  • Evaluates related educational support staff as necessary.

Qualifications

Valid/Active Professional Educator’s License through Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) registered in Will County, IL required with the following endorsements:

  • General Administrative
  • Qualified Teacher Evaluator (Modules 1-5)
  • Director of Special Education Endorsement preferred; although not required
  •  Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in school administration and supervision.
  • Previous administrative experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful Special Education teaching or related service delivery.

Salary/Benefits

Starting Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000 dependent on experience in similar role/s.
