Adaptive P.E. Teacher- Anticipated (2026-27)

The district is anticipating an Adaptive PE Teacher opening for the 2026-27 school year.

Purpose: The job of Teacher - Adaptive Physical Education was established for the purpose/s of developing physical skills and abilities of students requiring specialized instruction by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and students' progress/activities/outcomes; developing students' leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations, goals. The primary responsibility is to develop positive health and life long fitness goals aligned with the Illinois State Standards for Physical Development and Health.

Reports To: Assigned Principal/Assistant Principal of Student Services and The Teaching and Learning Department

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide adapted physical education services to students requiring specialized instruction as indicated on an individualized education plan (IEP)
  • Adapt instructional techniques to the age and skill levels of students.
  • Instruct students, using adapted physical education techniques, to improve physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, or sports and game achievement.
  • Maintain thorough student records to document attendance, participation, or progress, ensuring confidentiality of all records.
  • Provide students positive feedback to encourage them and help them develop an appreciation for physical education.
  • Assess students' physical progress or needs.
  • Prepare lesson plans in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs) and the functional abilities or needs of students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of behavior to create safe, orderly, and effective environments for learning.
  • Evaluate the motor needs of individual students to determine their need for adapted physical education services.
  • Write reports to summarize student performance, social growth, or physical development.
  • Advise education professionals of students' physical abilities or disabilities and the accommodations required to enhance their school performance.
  • Attend in-service training, workshops, or meetings to keep abreast of current practices or trends in adapted physical education.
  • Review adapted physical education programs or practices to ensure compliance with government or other regulations.
  • Request or order physical education equipment, following standard procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of instructional equipment, materials, or aids.


Other Functions:
1. Assume responsibility for continued professional growth.
2. Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.
3. Support Glenview 34 policy and Strategic Plan.

Job Requirements / Minimum Qualifications:
1. An Illinois teaching license with a PE endorsement and Approval of Adapted Physical Education Teacher (PPE)
2. Experience with special education students preferred.
3. Ability is required to independently problem-solve, schedule daily activities, model good communication and to communicate and work effectively with professional staff and parents.

Working Environment:

  • To perform the physically demanding job functions, strength and/or endurance for lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling are occasionally required.
  • The perform the most physically demanding job functions, the physical body movement of stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling are occasionally required.
  • To perform the most physically demanding job functions, the upper extremity physical capabilities reaching, handling, and/or fine motor dexterity are constantly required.


Working Conditions:
Full-time (1.0 FTE), 10-month position starting August, 2026 through early June, 2027. Certified Staff work 185 days per school year.

 

FLSA Status: Exempt
