Director of Student Services

Duties

  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Model teamwork, collaboration, and professional leadership; provide mentoring and instructional guidance.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate Special Education and at-risk programs and personnel.
  • Evaluate programs to ensure effective identification and services for students’ needs, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee maintenance of special education and 504 records and ensure timely, accurate documentation. Implement and monitor a continuum of services, including preschool through 8th grade, out-of-district placements, and nonpublic students.
  • Act as liaison to special education cooperatives, serve as liaison for children experiencing homelessness, and coordinate services for hospitalized/homebound students.
  • Collaborate with administrators on staff recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluations.
  • Manage budgets, grants, expenditures, curriculum, assessments, and professional development for student services.
  • Coordinate psychological, speech, nursing, and social work services.
  • Attend meetings, represent the Superintendent at community and inter-agency functions, and serve as one of the District Complaint Managers.
  • Maintain current professional knowledge, utilize technology effectively, and uphold student safety, ethical standards, and confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Illinois Professional Educator License with Director of Special Education endorsement.
  • Knowledge of special education law, 504 plans, MTSS, and evidence-based instructional practices. Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Prior successful experience in a similar position.

Salary/Benefits

Competitive Salary & Benefits:

  • Base: $150,000 - $170,000
  • Board-paid family health, vision, and dental insurance benefit and TRS contribution.
