Duties
General Description:
Under the general supervision of the High School Principal, the High School Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction serves as a learning leader of the High School team - a leader who uses personal, social, and systems intelligence to transform a school into a learning organization through a mindset of growth, services, and cultural responsiveness.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Serves as an instructional leader of the school.
- Establishes and enhances an effective learning climate in the school that is focused on continual school improvement.
- Collaborates with the other departments to design and implement specific programs to meet the specific needs of the school, including special education and English learners.
- Plans, organizes, or directs the implementation of all curricular activities.
- Keeps the Principal informed of the school’s activities and concerns.
- Manages the school curricular budgets and expenditures.
- Serves as the dual credit liaison for the high school with the local community colleges
- Collaborates with the Director of Career and College and Department Chairs to lead curricular departments in embedding the PaCE Framework, career pathways, and SD 308 college and career readiness platform into the course teams’ curricular maps and scope and sequences.
- Collaborates with the Secondary Director of AVID to integrate AVID strategies across the building.
- Supports the completion of local, state, and federal reports.
- Plans, organizes, and directs the AP testing process from registration to testing.
- Co-facilitates the District 308 Curriculum Renewal Cycles alongside the department chairs and district administrators for the high school course teams.
- Leads the department chair meetings.
- Interprets and enforces District 308 Board policies and administrative regulations.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students.
- Promotes and maintains positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community.
- Supports the Principal in the development, monitoring, and evaluation of the curriculum and instructional program, including the School Improvement Plan.
- Utilizes the district’s data dashboard and other metrics to support MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and building-wide data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborates with department chairs in scheduling classes within established guidelines to meet all student needs, including special education and English learners.
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and provides supervision at school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on student academic achievement and progress.
- Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development through membership in professional organizations; through attendance at regional, state, and national meetings; and through enrollment in advanced courses.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing areas of mutual professional interest with others in the field.
- Supervises licensed, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-licensed personnel in the school.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Principal of Student Services in the creation of the master teaching schedule and supervision assignments.
- Conducts staff meetings and professional learning opportunities as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
- Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Principals within the same building, at the other high school, and at the junior highs.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Salary/Benefits
COMPENSATION: The recommended candidate for this position will receive a regionally competitive salary range of $108K-115K depending on educational background and experience.
