Director of Legal Counsel #1846

Duties

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and Deputy Legal Officer, performs legal counsel duties; supports and supervises assistant legal counsel staff; liaises with the legal department management team to provide support and consistency across the Legal Department.
  • Streamlines, implements and oversees contract and procurement processes.
  • Attends expenditure review meetings and represents the Agency at procurement related hearings and meetings.
  • Researches, reviews and/or prepares legal opinions, legislation, administrative rules, and other legal documents. 
  • Drafts and negotiates all Agency contracts.
  • Reviews all Agency procurements and provides guidance and advice on enforcement and interpretation of contracts.
  • Supervises and evaluates legal department staff. 
  • Provides daily support to staff.
  • Assists and advises Agency in policy deliberations and implementation.
  • Advises school officials and such other constituents as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited law school. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
  • Seven years of experience working as a licensed attorney.
  • Experience with contract and procurement matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of education law and familiarity with education issues.

$97,984 - $129,828
$97,984 - $161,674
Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
