Duties

• Develop and deliver science lessons aligned with Illinois state standards and district curriculum
• Teach life science, physical science, earth science, and related content areas
• Design and implement hands-on labs, experiments, and inquiry-based learning activities
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs and 504 plans.
• Maintain and organize science equipment, materials, and classroom resources
• Establish and maintain a structured, positive classroom learning environment
• Implement effective classroom management strategies
• Collaborate with grade-level teams and colleagues on curriculum planning
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate middle school science endorsement
• Knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
• Ability to develop and implement standards-aligned lesson plans
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and proper use of science equipment
• Experience using assessment data to guide instruction
• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administrators
• Commitment to ongoing professional development

Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits are determined per the BVEA collective bargaining agreement.

Additional Notes

The district also offers prior years of service on the salary schedule, a tuition waiver for out of district children of staff members, reimbursement for college coursework, and opportunities to earn early tenure.
