Duties
Title: Director of Teaching and Learning
The criteria indicated below are intended to describe various types of work that may be performed. The exclusion of specific responsibilities does not prohibit them if the work is similar, related, or a logical task of the position.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Curriculum & Instruction
- Curriculum pilots and adoptions
- Ordering and management of instructional materials (print and digital)
- Scope and sequence development and curriculum mapping
- Overseeing the District's curriculum implementations and review cycles and providing adequate curriculum materials, resources, training, and equipment for all schools and relevant personnel.
- Curriculum documents and communication for families
- Backwards planning and unit development
- Instructional minutes and commitments
- Oversight of instructional coaches
- PLC and districtwide articulation leader meetings
- Collaboration across all four schools to develop, provide support for, and to implement data-driven district and school improvement plans to ensure continued student growth and increased student achievement.
- Utilizing effective leadership to facilitate assessment data collection and analyses, professional development and facilitate integration of technology to enhance instruction, innovation and student learning.
Assessment & Data Systems
- Oversight of all district wide testing
- State testing coordination
- Local formative and summative assessments
- Benchmarking systems
- Districtwide data analysis and reporting
- Developing and implementing educational activities, both strategic and operational, including metrics to track and evaluate progress, and monitoring the collection and analysis of data to improve the instructional program.
- Analyzing and interpreting results of district and state assessment, determining trends and making recommendations to the Superintendent.
- Presentation of assessment data, goals, and outcomes to the Superintendent and Board of Education
- Oversight of all districtwide strategic planning initiatives related to Goal Area: Student Achievement and Growth
Professional Development & Staff Support
- Organizing and executing all professional development (SIP, Institute Days)
- Working with District staff to develop, oversee, and evaluate the effectiveness of a professional development program to improve learning for staff and administrators.
- New staff orientation and mentoring program oversight
- Oversight of the Professional Evaluation Committee
- ISBE compliance (PD requirements, 5Essentials, IWAS reporting)
- AI Committee Chair
- Coordination, planning and execution of all summer programming for students and staff
Student Systems & Supports
- Oversight of MTSS in collaboration with specialists (alignment, intervention selection, protocols) and Student Services
- Coordination of MTSS systems and Coordination with District Specialists
- Articulation between elementary, middle school, and high school for successful transition of students
Grants & Compliance
- Writing, overseeing, and submitting grants (Title I, Title II, State Literacy Grants, Community Grants such as CITGO)
- Conducting needs assessments and monitoring compliance
- Preparing and submitting federal and state reports and expenditure claims
- Compliance monitoring of Board policies related to Teaching and Learning
Partnerships & Point of Contact Responsibilities
- Point of contact for Right at School and CITGO
- Point of contact for parents at the district-level regarding anything related to curriculum, instruction and assessment
- Point of contact for South Cook Intermediate Service Center
- Liaison for university partnerships and student teacher programs
- Additional point of contact with Superintendent during emergency situations
Operations & Leadership
- Guiding school leaders in the development of school curriculum, facilitating collaboration among school sites, and supervising the work of curriculum consultants and team members in order to formulate action plans and modify programs and procedures to improve district efforts.
- Management and supervision of departmental administrative and clerical operations
- Budget preparation and administration for all programs under supervision
- Digital subscription management and delivery
- Board meeting attendance, committee meeting attendance and preparation and presentation of reports at Board and committee meetings
- Initiating and maintaining relationships with educational leaders at local, state, and national levels
- Performing such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent
Salary/Benefits
$135,000-$155,000 based on experience
