Duties
The successful candidate will be an experienced individual who can perform a combination of the following:
- Create, implement, and regularly update Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for students with identified needs, ensuring access to the general education curriculum.
- Provide coaching and support to general education teachers on lesson and curricular modifications, along with implementing accommodations to provide greater access and support within the general education classroom.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies and materials to provide equitable access to education for students with disabilities.
- Develop and implement behavioral intervention plans to support positive behaviors within the learning environment.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed of best practices in special education and inclusion.
- Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with families about student progress and involve them in the educational process.
- Establish links with community resources to support students' learning and well-being.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of students with disabilities within the school and the broader community.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
The successful candidate will be an experienced individual who possesses a combination of the following:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS I endorsement
- Proven experience in special education or a related field
- Comprehensive understanding of inclusive educational practices and strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
- Skilled in designing and implementing differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Proficiency in assessing students' abilities and progress using both formal and informal assessment tools.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and educational software that support learning for students with special needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, general education teachers, and other professionals.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- General knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and procedures
