Chief Operations Officer

Duties

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: As a member of the District's executive staff, the Chief Operations Officer works closely with the Superintendent to plan, direct and mange District operations and participates in discussion and consideration of policy as well as long-range strategic planning issues.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the following departments: operations, planning, facilities, food service, and transportation.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

 

  1. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  2. Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  4. Builds and supports a collaborative management team that delivers high quality services.
  5. Assures that all necessary support systems are in place and function to support the delivery of quality services.
  6. Fosters an environment of excellence and commitment to quality.
  7. Ensures that all assigned activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws governing school operations.
  8. Monitors all financial aspects of areas of responsibility and report concerns and recommendations to the Superintendent
  9. Maintain compliance with all district, state and federal regulations.
  10. Continually identifies and implements process improvements, upgrading the quality of services so they consistently meet or exceed expectations of the users.
  11. Maintains a sound plan of departmental organization, establishing procedures to ensure successful personnel development and appropriate personnel succession.
  12. Develops annual budgets for departments, and collaborates with other departments for potential budget needs relating to facilities and construction.
  13. Provides support to and participates on the District's bargaining unit negotiation teams.
  14. Actively participates in the various Board of Education Committees.
  15. Takes the lead and gives guidance to the Superintendent on facilities master plan as well as maintenance cycles for district facilities
  16. Establishes operating procedures consistent with the Superintendent and Board of Education's policies and objectives; ensures the execution of these policies and objectives.
  17. Assumes other duties as delegated by the Superintendent who may make adjustments in the above-outlined scope of responsibilities

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in related field
  2. Training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  3. 5 years of extensive operations management experience
  4. Strong organizational, administrative and supervisory skills.
  5. Understanding of and experience with diversity of cultures and race.
  6. High energy level and assertive leadership style

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  3. Good verbal and listening skills
  4. Substantial specific knowledge and skills relating to the duties and responsibilities identified
  5. Knowledge of state and federal laws and requirements and the Illinois School Code

 

 

WORK CALENDAR: 12 Months

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.

Salary/Benefits

Salary:  $160,000 - $200,000 per year
