High School Social Studies Teacher

Duties

Fisher Jr/Sr High School is seeking a passionate and student-centered High School Social Studies Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will engage students in meaningful exploration of social sciences while fostering critical thinking, civic awareness, and real-world connections. This position includes teaching a variety of courses, such as Economics, Regional World Studies, Civics, Psychology, Sociology, and proctoring introductory technology courses.

The successful candidate will:

  • Design and deliver engaging lessons across multiple social studies disciplines aligned to state standards.

  • Teach course sections that include Economics, Regional World Studies, Civics, Psychology, and Sociology.

  • Support the school’s technology curriculum through facilitating and proctoring introductory technology courses.

  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and promote discussion, inquiry, and analytical skills.

  • Maintain consistent communication with students and families regarding progress, expectations, and classroom learning.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative classroom environment that supports student growth and school-wide expectations.

  • Participate in professional development, curriculum planning, team collaboration, and school initiatives.

  • Contribute to the culture of Fisher Jr/Sr High School through involvement in extracurricular, leadership, or committee opportunities as desired.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with the appropriate High School Social Science endorsement(s), or the ability to obtain them.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to fostering student engagement, academic achievement, and responsible citizenship.

 

 

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary and benefits are determined by the district’s negotiated contract and are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary Schedule
