Elementary Principal

Duties

  • Manage the operation and all other activities and functions which occur at the school
  • Develop positive school/community relations and act as liaison between the school and community; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, students, teachers, and the community
  • Develop, implement, and assess the instructional programs at the assigned school and coordinate with the Superintendent in program planning
  • Participate in developing the District improvement plan, school calendar, staffing and manpower plans; manage and administer school functions relating to these areas
  • Interview and select qualified personnel to be recommended for employment
  • Establish and manage student accounting and attendance procedures
  • Oversee the school food service program, including the requirements for the free/reduced meal program
  • Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies that ensure a safe and orderly environment
    • Establish procedures to be used in the event of school crisis and/or civil disobedience and provide leadership in the event of such happenings
    • Conduct staff meetings to discuss policy changes, instructional programs, potential problems, and resolution of existing problems
    • Communicate with Superintendent to keep him/her informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature
    • Direct the establishment of adequate property inventory records and ensure the security of school property
    • Coordinate the supervision of all extracurricular programs at school
    • Manage and supervise the school’s athletic and student activity programs including taking part in the selection of club sponsors and coaches; approve all school-sponsored activities and maintain a calendar of all school events
    • Provide leadership in the school improvement process and implement the school improvement plan, serving as the instructional leader for the school and spending the majority of their time on curriculum and staff development
    • Maintain visibility and accessibility on the school campus
    • Attend school-related activities and events
    • Implement School Board policy, state statutes, and federal regulations as they pertain to the school
    • Supervise and monitor the accurate and timely completion of data collection and reporting requirements
    • Direct development of the master schedule; assign teachers according to identified needs
    • Make appropriate recommendations relative to personnel placement, retention, and dismissal
    • Provide appropriate professional development opportunities for staff
    • Communicates high standards for teaching and learning and models high expectations
    • Ensures content alignment with established state standards; monitors lesson plans
    • Attend all Board Meetings and prepare a monthly administrative report for the Board
    • Evaluate all building staff according to Board Policy and state guidelines
    • Ensure that the building is safe, clean and well-organized
    • Supervise and recommend work needed to maintain and improve building
    • Conduct oneself as a positive role model
    • Improve leadership skills through professional development activities and disseminate that knowledge to other professionals
    • Performs related duties as assigned by the superintendent in accordance with the school policies and practices 

    EVALUATION:  Superintendent shall evaluate the Principal’s performance annually.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Salary/Benefits

 

12 month position

Regional Competitive Salary; Salary will be competitive to districts similar in size as Venice (Student Population: 85 students)

Qualifications

1. Masters Degree in Educational Administration

2.  Illinois Administrative Certificate, Type 75

3. Danielson Framework of Teaching Certified Evaluator
