Duties

• Provide eight-hour initial training to potential bus drivers
• Provide two hour refresher course to existing drivers
• Submit all required paperwork after each course to the ROE representative
• Attend annual training provided by the Illinois State Board of Education 

Qualifications

Per 23 Illinois Administrative Code, Section 1.515:

• Must be at least 21 years of age;
• Must hold or have held an Illinois School Bus Driver’s Permit, hold a current teaching certificate endorsed for driver education, or have the approval of the regional superintendent as having had other direct involvement in school bus transportation;

ROE 17 will help candidates obtain the requirements below:

• Must provide a current, valid card as evidence of having completed a course in first aid from the American Red Cross, The American Heart Association, or another national organization that is recognized by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
• Must have assisted a certified instructor in conducting an initial school bus driver training course and a refresher course; the person must also have taught each of these types of courses under the observation of a certified instructor and have received a satisfactory of overall teaching performance.

Salary/Benefits

• $325.00 per Initial Class
• $175.00 per 2-Hour Refresher Class
• Paid CPR and First Aid Training
• Paid Annual Training
• Paid Mileage
