Assistant Technology Director

Duties

  1. Technical Support: Resolves escalated hardware, software, and connectivity issues that cannot be resolved at the basic support level.
  2. Network Maintenance: Performs hands-on maintenance of network hardware, including switches, access points, and cabling; assists the Director in monitoring network performance and uptime.
  3. Systems Administration Support: Manages day-to-day user account operations in Active Directory and Google Workspace, including password resets, group permissions, and organizational unit (OU) management.
  4. Device Deployment: Oversees the imaging, configuration, and enrollment of student and staff devices using MDM (Mobile Device Management) systems.
  5. Lab & Classroom Oversight: Ensures all building-level technology environments (labs, carts, interactive displays) are operational and updated.
  6. Software Integration: Installs and tests educational software and web-based applications for compatibility with district systems.
  7. System Security: Implements endpoint security measures, including antivirus updates, OS patching, and ensuring content filtering is active on all devices.
  8. Equipment Maintenance: Performs or coordinates advanced repairs on district hardware, including laptops, printers, and document cameras.
  9. Inventory Tracking: Maintains a precise and up-to-date inventory of all district hardware and software assets.
  10. Staff Training: Provides "just-in-time" training and technical guidance to teachers and staff on how to use district hardware and software effectively.
  11. Technical Documentation: Documents all repairs, network changes, and troubleshooting steps in the district ticketing system to build a technical knowledge base.
  12. Planning Assistance: Provides technical feedback to the Director regarding the hardware and infrastructure needs of individual buildings.
  13. Other Duties as Assigned: Duties as assigned by the Director or Superintendent.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 2–4 years of experience in technical support or IT systems maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Wi-Fi).
  • Ability to work independently and manage a heavy service ticket load efficiently.

Preferred (But Not Required):

  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, or Google IT Support Professional Certificate.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Windows device and Chromebook management, Windows Server basics, and MDM platforms.
  • Education: Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience.

Salary/Benefits

Annual salary of $45,000-$60,000 based on experience and certification.  Benefits include employee-only health insurance, basic life insurance, District-paid IMRF retirement, 13 paid sick days, 3 paid personal days, paid holidays, and paid vacation.  Dental, vision, and optional life insurance are available at employee expense.
