Assistant Principal @ John Deere Middle School

Duties

10-Month Position

The Middle School Principal will report to the Principal and will be expected to collaborate on school improvement initiatives, evaluate certified staff, have primary responsibility for administering student discipline when necessary, perform general supervision duties during and after school hours, and other specific duties as assigned. In addition to minimum state requirements, the successful candidate must be committed to continuous growth and improvement. The preferred candidate will possess an understanding of formative assessment, high quality instructional practices, technology integration, and be able to collaborate and work effectively on teams.

In the Area of General Administration:

  • Function as the chief building administrator in the absence of the Building Principal.
  • Develop a master schedule.
  • Cooperate with appropriate personnel in determining teaching schedules.
    • reschedule or change classes as necessary
    • Group class sections, homerooms, and special classes.
    • Register and schedule seventh and eight grade students as assigned by the Building Principal
  • Serve as building treasurer.
  • Participate in the evaluation of building staff.
  • Assist the Principal in the formation of school policies.
  • Provide supervision at plays, dances, and concerts.
  • Provide noon-time supervision in cafeteria whenever possible.

In the Area of Discipline:

  • To determine appropriate disciplinary action for students as assigned by the Building Principal.
  • Resolve lunchroom, classroom, and school problems.
  • Complete court records and represent the school in courtroom hearings.
  • Supervise detention placement and follow-up.
  • Conduct parent, teacher and pupil conferences as necessary.
  • Participate in conferences with police and youth workers.

In Providing Guidance and Counseling:

  • Provide guidance and counseling for students as assigned by Building Principal.
  • Conduct conferences with teachers, pupils, and parents on personal, educational, emotional, and social problems.
  • Process psychological reports and attend staffings.
  • Aid in screening for community awards, service clubs, etc. (eg: American Legion)
  • Assist counselor with group guidance activities.
  • Assist teachers, counselors and other administrators with follow-up on interim reports.

In the Area of Attendance:

  • Keep accurate record of attendance, tardies, and truancies for students as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal which the employee is qualified to perform. 

 

 

Qualifications

 Must hold an Illinois Professional Educator License with an Administrative, Educational Leadership, or Principal Endorsement

 

Salary/Benefits

Salary: New hire salary placement range $93,614 to $101,798
Placement within this salary range will be based on previous administrative experience.
